  • It was getting some of the shakiest reviews of Leigh's career. Maybe they're just putting it in a part of the year without competition if it isn't going to win awards.

  • Sunday night I saw The National at an out door venue during a rain downpour. Matt Berninger was standing on seats in the crowd belting out the choruses to "Graceless." It was a religious experience.
  • @Loracs The Wim Wenders documentary is amazing as well! Love that song.
  • That Kendrick verse on Mona Lisa.

  • I'm very pro the new Lana Del Rey singles. She's finally starting to click with me in a way her work typically doesn't. Also the new Julia Holter single. And the Thom Yorke one.

  • That sounds like a good, powerful evocation of the city for sure.

  • It was amazing, for sure. It is such an easy show to marathon--you almost don't know you're doing it.
  • I've never heard of Yves Tumor either. I'll give the record a spin this weekend.
  • I can still bump Origins and Absolution. Showbiz actually dips the most Radiohead for my taste now, but I loved it back in high school.

  • Oh snap! (Yeah outside of a few dissenting critics I trust, I’ve heard bad things about Quixote.)

  • I’m seeing 2001 tomorrow. We flyover folk don’t always get these opportunities, so I’m excited. (I think it is playing everywhere this weekend in fake IMAX, IMAX, and IMAX 70mm. My arthouse is getting Stalker, Persona, and Dead Man for repertory sc…

  • I’ve heard it’s good, but I didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters.

  • Ha! I’m not that big on that fight scene in Winter Soldier. It’s not bad, but it is over cut, which takes away from some of the geographic coherence and is not my favorite mode of action scene. I’d like more establishing shots.

  • 1. Black Panther 2. Avengers 1 3. Iron Man 1 4. Ragnarok 5. Guardians 1 I didn’t like the Captain America sequels. Winter Soldier is a meh spy film, and Civil War is just a mess in terms of plotting. I also just don’t care about Cap’s minimal devel…

  • It’s my film of the year so far. I think that it works splendidly as a character piece, following Hawke's descent into paranoia--of which he is probably RIGHT, and therefore, making the entire narrative more intrinsically complex. I personally loved…

  • I’ve heard hollow night is good. I’m pretty addicted to Persona 5 right now. Beat Nier Automata earlier this summer.

  • Uchū Nippon Setagaya is good. I also like that one live album (98.12.28). Fishmans was a great RYM discovery for me.
  • Such a joyous film.
